Computing for Free
In 2003 TANZ commissioned PricewaterhouseCoopers to undertake research into the outcomes of the Computing for Free initiative. The research concluded that Computing for Free had had a significant impact on computer skills training in New Zealand by:
- raising foundation skills and workplace skills
- increasing employment and employability
- meeting knowledge economy objectives in eLearning and eGovernment
- closing the digital divide, by allowing access to older learners, people of under-represented ethnicities and people with low incomes, and by motivating a sustained change in computer use
Suzanne Snively, partner at PWC, said at the Connecting Communities Conference in December 2003 that "feedback from a number of students suggests that the flexible, work-at-your-own-pace way the courses are delivered is a significant factor in obtaining their engagement. By attracting specific types of learner and imparting new skills to them, significant outcomes are achieved."
